About ICANNnot.org
The history of ICANNnot.org:
- I created ICANNnot.org in 2000 to air my views as a candidate for an At Large nomination, because ICANN allowed each candidate only 750 words for a statement posted on the website.
- I thought it would be more fun to express my views on a website in parody of ICANN.
- The ICANN nomination process was unclear at first, so I decided to support the endorsement of other candidates rather than myself, to increase the likelihood of member-nominated candidates receiving nominations.
- After the nominations period began, I found out that ICANN would regularly update their website with nomination counts, so I wrote some perl scripts to improve their statistics and provide election projections, thereby making it easier for voters to make their endorsements count. The final nominations status pages are still available.
- After the ICANN elections in 2000, I became busy with other projects and this website remained mostly unchanged until March, 2002.
For some background on the ICANN election process, see this website almost as it looked back in October 2000, just after the ICANN elections.
